How to transfer maps to your Garmin GPSr using MapSource

First ensure that MapSource and the mapsets you wish to use are installed.

1

There are three "buttons" in MapSource that are used to transfer maps to your GPSr:
1. "Select a Product" (Pick a mapset);
2. "Map Tool" (Map selector);
3. "Send to Device".

You can transfer as many or as few maps to your Garmin GPSr as you wish - the upper limit is the amount of memory you have available on your unit's SD Card. Please note, and it will be mentioned again, that all custom maps SHOULD be sent to your unit's SD (expansion memory) card, and NOT to the unit's internal memory. Regardless of where you send the maps (internal memory or SD Card), uploading a new map or maps WILL overwrite whatever maps are there. This is the Garmin process, so make sure you have a backup of what (if anything) is already there.

Sending maps to your GPSr:

Select the mapset (Garmin calls it "Select a product") you wish to use. For this example, we wil assume that you have Thailand, Laos and Myanmar already installed into MqapSource. First, we will select the Thailand map.
Then select the Map Tool (we prefer to call it the map selector).

2

Click on the map or portion thereof you wish to transfer to your GPSr. The Thailand mapset has 31 map sections to cover the entire Kingdom. For this example, we have selected the Chiang Rai-Mae Hong Son and the Nan-Udon Thani maps. As you select a map by clicking anywhere on it, it will change color and the name of the map will appear in the left panel under the tab "Maps". You can, of course, select any number or all of the sections.

For our example, our next map will be Laos, so click on your "Select a Product" mini-window and select Laos. Then using the Map Tool, pick the map. The map will change color and the name will on the "Maps" list.

3

Our next map will be Myanmar, so click on your "Select a Product" mini-window and select Myanmar. Then using the Map Tool, pick the map by clicking anywhere on it. The map will change color and the name will on the "Maps" list.

For the purpose of our example, our list is now complete and we are ready to send the maps to the Garmin GPSr.

4

Click the "Send to device" icon. A pop-up window will appear. In the middle mini-window entitled "Device", select your Garmin's SD Card (expansion memory) - NOT the unit's internal memory (that will be labeled with your Garmin's Model name and Garmin ID number).

Click "Send" and MapSource will send the maps to your Garmin's SD memory card. When completed, it will show a new window labelled "Transfer Complete" and containing "The data was successfully sent".

That's it, the maps are now on your Garmin GPSr and are ready to use.
