Announcements of Interest to the Mapping Community

Team Rotweiler announces that a joint Cambodia - Thailand collaborative effort have acquired the rights to the further development of the Cambodia mapset.

The group have spent almost four months improving the data and creating a new GPS map of Cambodia and established a website to market their map. Thay can be contacted and their new map purchased from: CAMBODIA-GPS.COM. We wish them well in their new project and hope that the community of GPS users will support their work as well.

Team Rotweiler pre-announces the development of a new mapset of Myanmar

The mapset is a cooperative effort of Team Rotweiler and a number of private individuals who either live in Myanmar or travel there extensively. The first build of the map should be available on the site by early March 2010 assuming that our planned trips there do not result in a longer stay in Myanmar than originally planned.

The first build of the map will feature some major highways as well as some details within the major cities. Of course, the mapset will be fully indexed and routing. It will of course feature the usual high level of accuracy characteristic of Rotweiler's maps. Watch for it!

Team Rotweiler pre-announces the development of a new mapset of Pakistan

The mapset is a cooperative effort of Team Rotweiler and the PKMaps Group (pkmaps.freeforums.org). The PK group's urban data of Islamabad, Karachi, Wah, Peshawar and hopefully Lahore, is being incorporated into the mapset. Urban data is used with permission.

The map will feature all (most?) of the major highway routes within Pakistan as well as some minor inter-city routes. Of course, the mapset will be fully indexed and routing. It will of course feature the usual high level of accuracy characteristic of Rotweiler's maps. Watch for it!

Team Rotweiler pre-announces the development of a new mapset of All IndoChina

The mapset is a compilation of our Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam maps - however, with a large number of improvements, especially to the Cambodia and Laos maps. There are also numerous new roadway alignments in south-western Laos. In addition, all roadways connections between the three countries have been checked, improved, and to the extent necessary, fixed.

October 7, 2008  It is with great sadness that we report the death of Sochi Kenkyusha, GPS Mapper, friend, and GPS adventurer.

Sochi was a fanatic GPS mapper, a perfectionist in his work, a man who enjoyed the challenges of the craft of making GPS maps.

Condolences to his family from Rotweilermaps and from GPS map makers and users worldwide. Sochi will be dearly missed.

"Team Rotweiler Mapping Cooperative" - Created August 8, 2007

Rotweilermaps.com is pleased to announce the formation of the Team Rotweiler Mapping Cooperative.

Three experienced international mappers have joined forces with Rotweilermaps to enhance the development and publication of new GPS maps. They are:

 Geo

Joining us from Australia is Geo. Geo is an experienced mapper with dozens of original maps and compliations to his credit. A frequent contributor to the MapCenter and other mapping organizations, Geo will concentrate on the routable maps of Laos and Vietnam.

 Prinya

Joining us from Malaysia is Prinja. Prinja has been active in the mapping community for approximately 2 years. Prinja is working on the Thai maps, with emphasis on the maps of Central Thailand including Bangkok. His contributions are already making major contributions to improving the maps and will continue to do so.

 Sochi

Joining us from Japan is Sochi. Sochia has spent many years working on developing GPS maps of South Asia and is currently working on new maps of Hong Kong. His limited-distribution maps are considered to be amoung the best GPS maps available to the mapping community. We are positive his work will have a huge impact on the availability of our maps.

If you are interesting in working with Team Rotweiler Mapping Cooperative, email us.

Map Updates posted: - May 2008

Rotweilermaps.com has posted new maps of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

The Cambodia map is now complete. This, what we understand is the first fully-routable and indexed, up-to-date GPS map of Cambodia. This map, especially for all main routes and for the Cities of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, is considered "suitable for navigation".

A major feature of the map is its accurate detail for the Siem Reap area including the Angkor Wat temples/ruin complexes.

The map of Laos has also been substantially improved. Laos is now - for the most part - considered "navigation-ready", especially the major highways and routes in larger cities.

Work is proceeding on the Vietnam maps with a new and much more accurate build expected to be released sometime in late 2008.

A special thank you to all who submitted tracks and POIs to this project.
